Xbox 360 vs PS3

I'm thinking about getting an Xbox, mostly because Halo 3 looks so cool. But I haven't had a gaming console in years so I haven't really been following the trends. I've read a little bit though and there are some things that make me think I should get a PS3, like built in wireless networking, Blu-Ray(we don't have a Blu-Ray or HD player) and lots of storage options. Does anyone have both, or done a lot of research on them? I don't even know what games are out. Maybe I should go to Target and play each one for an hour or so before I decide. Also, we have a widescreen HDTV, do they both have HDMI outputs? I can't see it in the specs. Ah, never mind, some versions do some don't.

Getting tired of WOW?

I have been playing guildwars for a week. it has been devouring hours of time...in a ass hurting way I am sure you are familiar with.

I heard the Wii was one of the more fun "boxes", but I don't have first hand knowldege. Jethro has an Xbox...it was fun, but seemed just like the playstation.

Best video game I ever played was Twisted Metal 2 for the playstation in early 90's. Literally played 36 hours strait one weekend. blisters on thumbs.

Shan and David love Twisted Metal too. I never played. I'm not getting tired of WoW, or any MORE tired of it, heh. I've just wanted to get a console system for a while now and Halo 3 looks really cool. The last system I had was a N64 and I loved it. Shan and I were walking through Best Buy this weekend and I saw some game trailers and stuff on the HD TVs there and they looked like tons of fun.

Oh man. Tough one. I'd say go with the Xbox. And that's coming from a Sony whore.

In my opinion First Person Shooters, like Halo 3 aren't as good on the console. I played Halo 3 and it is fun, but I think that sort of game is a lot more fun on the PC. So, as far as I am concerned I wouldn't let that be the only reason to get a console.

Does the X-Box 360 have a HD DVD built in? If it doesn't, I think the PS3 is worth getting for the Blu Ray. I saw a couple of ads that packaged the PS3 with 3 games and 3 blu ray movies for a pretty good price. So, that is cool. Especially, if BluRay ends up winning the format war. From what I can see graphics between the two are equal. And, I am guessing more games are going to start trickling out for the PS3 now that it has been out for a while.

I have heard awesome things about the Wii. But, it's more cool for user interface and fun games. Graphics wise, it's not a huge leap, like the other two are.

Every time I go to target some stupid snot nose is playing the consoles and when I try to move him he cries rape. So good luck with that plan!

We have a Wii and it has been pretty much a bust of a purchase. Once we got past the wow factor of the interface it was just boring kid games for the most part. Playing regular games with that controller really sucks when you're essentially using it as a laser pointer. Not very ergonomically pleasant.

But the technology is cool.

They just came out with Xbox 360 Arcade which scrapes the hard drive in the regular versions, but brings the console price down to $250.
I say go with that, it still has some memory to save your games and HD and Blu-Ray players are going to be under $100 this xmas.
Also, I predict HD winning because Blu-Ray has said that they will not allow porn on their discs and that is what killed Beta (even though it had superior video quality)

We have a Wii, which I hacked and we now have 20 or so games. Metroid Prime 3 is similar to Halo, IMO, and is hella fun.

I'll be on the lookout for Black Friday deals on consoles, but doubt I'll be getting one otherwise. Givin my druthers, I'd pick up a 360 for Halo3 and because we already have a shit-ton of original xbox games that should be able to play on the 360.

I haven't been reading LJ in forever, but have you tried Team Fortress? It's supposed to be pretty amazing, and it's a PC thing, so...

Yeah, I got the Orange Box for the PC and have played some Team Fortress and Portal. They're both super fun. I think I've decided to get an Xbox after all. I like the idea of Xbox Live and trying games before you buy them, along with a lot of other stuff about it.

With your large HD screen that should be a lot of fun... Are most of the games now internet opponent based or do you still do better with a head to head real opponent?

I think either, depending on the game.
