I bought a bike trainer today. I have rollers, but there is no way I'm getting on those in the condition I am in. I'm too lazy to go to the gym, and I'm too much of a fair weather person to go exercise outside right now, so I figure if I can just put in 30 minutes of spinning in the morning or evening, I can work off some of this excess flab. I just got on to try it out for like 10 minutes and I'm sweating like a pig, heh. But still, it felt good to sit on my bike. Time for a smoke!

I got a new board for that microprocessor kit I talked about before and started doing some of the projects last night. It's really fun. Typing in the BASIC programs reminds me of back in the day putting in BASIC programs on my TI-994a. Unfortunately, school starts on Saturday, so I will have no free time anymore. I'm finishing up the last of my "free" reading, Siddhartha and A Canticle for Leibowitz. Both were really good.

I got a new flat screen monitor to replace the CRT I had as my second monitor, but then I thought, "Why stop at two?" since I had the extra monitor. So now I have my Windows 7 machine next to my main machine. Things are a total mess in here right now, but here are a couple pics:







Oh yeah, if you want to beta test Windows 7 it becomes public tomorrow afternoon.

I went to spinning class for the first time in three weeks. Now my sides hurt when I laugh!

I haven't used it since we moved. Not sure how much use it will get now that I am going to spinning class, but it does feel awesome.

I am a little confused...how is a trainer different than rollers?

Thanks for helping the economy, you are a real american hero. Do you want to buy some solar panels? :)

With rollers your bike wheels just sit on top of some cylinders and you have to balance on them, like so:


With a trainer, your rear axle is held stationary, so you don't have to balance at all, just spin.

Rollers definately seem harder, especially if you are hung over or bad with balance.

Oh yeah they are. There are some hilarious videos on YouTube of people eating it if you search for bike rollers.

I have that same kind of trainer set up for the bad weather riding. It will help if you put a book (like a phone book) under your front wheel to level your bike.

I can only tolerate riding it for a couple of hours..total boredom, even though I have it set up in front of the TV w/DVD player. I did get a few DVDs for xmas by Spinervals that are kind of cool. One is a virtual reality ride that helps you focus on something besides the boredom. It's a killer workout too.

Yeah I got a little wheel chock that provides different heights for my front wheel. I'm sure it can get boring. I got a DVD with mine so that will provide some entertainment for now and, as you can see, my bike is right in front of my computer, so I can watch movies and junk. Anyway, for me it's a compromise between boredom and laziness, and laziness always wins, so the trainer will be fine for me until the weather gets warmer. Besides, I don't plan on riding more than 30-45 minutes at a time on this. :)

Add an advanced component to your WoW playing, install a keyboard and mouse on the handlebars and play while riding.
