got The Two Towers, extended edition (FINALLY) today. Can I just say...OMG! I am so so so so so happy! After another excellent film (minus the original Osgilliath scene (note: the NEW Osgilliath scene more than makes up for that) and the whole bit about Aragorn falling off the cliff (which the Brego stable scene more than made up for) the EE just amazed me. So many important things that I won't be able to recall right now but will speak endlessly about over the next few days...Well, to start, the things I mentioned already. The Osgilliath scene. Umm, I'd like to say, there can not be enough Boromir. And he is so overlooked and misunderstood that I was glad we got a little more insight into his true character and the relationship (which must play out in RotK, obviously) between he, Faramir and Denethor. I was a little disappointed that they showed Faramir's vision of his brother arriving (at least it was in the elven boat) instead of the actual arrival of the boat with he, his sword and horn, and all the fucking orc and uruk hai weapons that he slaughtered on the shores of Gondor, as in the book. But still, it was awesome. Now I see why they bothered to make the Osgilliath set. I friggin LOVED the elvish rope scene! That was killer. Brego was not something that they had to use, and I think the time could have been used better, but still, at least they developed Aragorn's character a bit by showing his skill with horses. The Ent Draughts was something that I thought was dearly lacking in the original cut and I was so happy to see it in the EE. And the part about the Ent wives was touching, but nothing ever really happens about it in the book, so who cares, really? (Except a dork like me who was stoked about it.) Theodred's funeral was cool because of Eowyn's singing. How beautiful and haunting! The slaughter of Saruman's army as the fled Helm's Deep was awesome, although not long or bloody enough. The part with Faramir kicking Gollum's ass about taking them through Cirith Ungol was great.

There were a few more scenes that had my leg shaking like a dog getting his tummy scratched, but I can't remember them. Mostly fighting stuff.

Oh cool! I just did a search because of Treebeard talking to the tree that was killing Merry and Pippin. I could have sworn it was the same thing Tom Bombadil said when they went through the old forest in the Shire. And it was! kick ass. I guess if we have to miss out on Tom, it's a comfort for him to come through at some point in the films.

Oh yeah! And when Gandalf was talking to Aragorn AND when Gimli said he's a lot grumpier and and and!!! Oh man, I loved it. I guess I should cut this and do a new post about the rest of today. ;-)

I was really happy they put the Huorns back in. I loved it as well. EE is always better.

My EE collection is severely lacking now. ROTK!!!!!

Do you think they made The Hobbit? I keep secretly dreaming and hoping that they did and will give it a huge fanfare preview at the end of RotK. Please god, make it so.

Apparently New Line is thinking about asking Jackson to do it. So I've heard.

Shit. I had hoped it was done/being done. If they do it I hope it is of equal quality.

I loved the EE SO SO much. Eowyn found out how old Aragorn is, there's so much more with Gollum that I found very important, and my GOD, the extra discs are chock full of fabulous.

I did think the bit at the end with Merry and Pippin and the Shire weed was kind of cheesy.

YES! The Aragorn/age thing is SO important! Especially considering Arwen.

I have yet to check out the extras, but am looking forward to it. Speaking of, I was hoping for a much more in depth ROTK trailer, which was lacking. WTF?

I actually liked the pipe weed scene. It's part of the books, although not AS comical, but it made me crack up none the less.

I watched TTT:EE while I was off after surgery, and I too loved all of the added bits....but I was a little perplexed at some of the stuff that they'd cut, since it seemed to be fairly critical expository type stuff, such as Gandalf's comment about Sauron not realizing that Frodo was on his way to destroy the Ring. That's a pretty pivotal fact, and leaving it out makes the story not quite as clear (IMO) to people who are unfamiliar with the story.

There's some other stuff that I felt the same way about, that if they'd left it in, the story would have been much stronger...especially since people's main complaints about TTT seem to be that there's a lot of action but little character/plot development. The scenes where they delve further into the character's motivations would have been better choices than some of the drawn out action scenes.

Ah, well...at least the DVDs are fleshing out the stuff that the general public is too attention-deficient to sit through in the theaters.

I bought my ROTK ticket already, btw...11am on the 17th, baybee. I'm taking the day off to go. :D

Man, I TOTALLY agree with you about how critical some of that stuff was. I was surprised as well. Lucky for us! I can't wait to see the EE marathon on a big screen (you KNOW they'll do it!)

I am so jealous about you RotK deal. I must look into it this week.

My movie theater has that Fandango thing going, to last weekend, I decided to brose on by and see if they had ROTK tickets available yet....they did, so I bought one. They actually have a 12:01am showing listed, but I didn't feel like going then and having to stay up until 4am. I'd prefer to get a good night's sleep and watch it bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 11am instead. Since I'm taking the day off, I should see it twice....I wonder if there are any afternoon tickets left. Hmmm....
