We watched Confidence and Some Like it Hot last night.  Confidence was pretty good for what it was.  I love scam or grifter movies.  Ocean's 11, The Italian Job, GRIFTERS(duh), Stark Raving Mad( ahh yeah), I don't know, there's a ton and I love them all.  The only thing that sucked about this one was Dustin Hoffman's overacting.  Luckily he wasn't in it much.  I loved the Lupus character and what happened with him.  I didn't expect that.

Some Like it Hot was funny as hell.  I have to be honest and admit that I'm finding that I have less and less tolerance for older movies.  Sorry, I'm not a film geek.  I like movies that keep the pace up and it seems like so many old movies are. so. fucking. slow.  So much dead space.  A lot of people will argue that our attention spans aren't what they used to be, and that may be true, but I think a lot of that dead space is a waste, besides being boring.  Not that the right shot, taken out a few seconds in silence can't have a dramatic or contemplative effect, but NOT THROUGH THE WHOLE MOVIE.  That said, SLiH was a gas.  Shan and I both were laughing out loud throughout the whole thing.  The movie's really aged well and Marilyn Monroe is so easy on the eyes.  God she was a beautiful(and built) woman. Hummina hummina.

There's water leaking through our ceiling, most likely coming from the shower in our bedroom.  I don't even know where to start with this one.  Why me?

I rented a couple old Woody Allen movies that I used to think were HILARIOUS, and they got barely a chuckle from me now. Some movies just don't age well.

It's clear that older movies are much slower paced then modern film. If we showed most modern films to a 1940s audience, I think their heads would explode. Or, at the very least they would bleed from the eyeballs.

But, like Some Like It Hot, I think there are plenty of old movies that don't dwell on a moment or emphasize the essence of a shot and drag out a scene. As, there are plenty of modern films that take their time in telling their story.

Just off of the top of my head two older films that I thought told their story without being bogged down and slow are Casablanca and The Philadelphia Story.

A good example of a modern film that meanders in storytellig is The Thin Red Line. I thought that was a wonderful very beautiful movie. But, it's chockful of dead space.

FYI, I think if you switch to sponge bathing you won't have a problem with leaks.

Some Like it Hot is one of my favorite Marilyn movies. I also love How to Marry a Millionaire and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Oh hell, I just love Marilyn. Rawr!

Haven't been keeping up on LJ lately, so I'm not sure if you mentioned seeing "Supersize Me".......you have to watch it if you haven't.
