Sheesh, last night we watched another of a long string of retarded movies I've been ordering from Netflix. Spun.  I actually liked the style of the movie, very Baz Luhrmanesque, and the actors all did great jobs but I guess I'm a plot whore because there WAS no plot.  Look, Nancy Reagan told me Drugs Are Bad in the 80s and I learned from experience in the 90s so I don't need some pompous ass telling me meth is bad for my skin. Plot people!  We need a PLOT! Ok, there were two things i liked in that movie: The kiss by the bus, even though it was done by dirty, filthy druggies, it was a Good Kiss. Also, Mickey Rourke. Man, I wish I could hang out with him. He's the coolest. Oh yeah, and Dike Blondie smacking down that vato, that was hilarious. Also, John Leguizamo's tight body. Man, if he were taller and thicker I'd have his babies.

Other recent losers in the Vinnie Movie Hall of Shame:

Glengary Glen Ross
Suicide Kings
Barton Fink
Michael Collins
His Girl Friday

I guess those are the most rotten movies I've ordered since the new year.  [Napolean Dynamite]GEEEEZ![/ND]

Re: Glengary Glen Ross
I have never, ever seen a group of people ALL overact so much in the same movie. Pathetic.

As sad as it is, I would compare it to say, Adam Sandler. Basically he has the same schtick in every movie he does. I think it's totally funny, but I don't expect it to age. When my grandkids see those movies and say, "That is just retarded, how could anyone watch it?" I'll understand.

I hate, hate, HATE the way Cary Grant talks. His tone and inflection irritate me to the point of distratction.

Adam Sandler at least KNOWS he's retarded, so there's that.

Do you hate everything Cary Grant, or just the madcap screwball stuff? I like the screwball stuff, but I can see how it would annoy a lot of people. But, he has made a couple of movies a bit less screwy. Like Philadelphia Story, where he was more suave than madcap. Or the Hitchcock movies where he is debonair when he is younger, and clueless when he is older.

You know what's a fun Cary Grant movie? Bringing up Baby. And if you hated His Girl Friday you would REALLY hate Bringing Up Baby. I mean, it will anger you and make you hurt others. Get it from netflix!

Honestly I didn't even finish it. Christopher Walken gets by on his "Christopher Walken" act too often. He shouldn't be able to ride that for ever.

They both run on HBO - not sure if Netflix carries them. You need to catch them, though. And it's Sexaholix...sorry about the spelling. :) They are his one man Broadway shows and are ridiculously funny. Check the HBO schedule and see if you can find them.

BTW, what is the "BBQ" portion of your post's topic header? Barbecue?

It's actually my journal title. It's kind of in mocking tribute to the interweb kiddies that spastically overuse acronyms like that. But yes, it is barbecue, but anything would have worked as well, eg. FBI KIA USB, etc...

yeah i'm in the Glengary Glen Ross liked it column... i don't think it's as GREAT a film as a lot of critics would have you believe - it can be tedious watch for pure entertainment value, but it is a good film... particularly if you enjoy watching the craft of acting... is some of it heavy-handed? sure, then again, Pacino chews on the scenery in every film he's in... but c'mon, Baldwin was fucking awesome in that opening scene and the subtleties of Lemon and Spacey's performances were brilliant...

Barton Fink is one of my all-time favorite films.

...Or at least it was when i saw it, when i was like 13. Not sure how it'd hold up, but probably pretty well.
