Shan and I went to the new pub in town for lunch today. It's called Stout Brothers and I've been anticipating its opening with this burnin', yearnin' feeling inside me...oh deep inside me and it hurt so bad. Well, it turned out to be awesome! It was a big relief after the last, supposed "pub" opened in Railroad Square. The pints were great, the food was yummy, the staff was friendly and attentive and the owners obviously took a lot of work on the look and atmosphere. It feels just like a pub should feel. It's definitely going to be one of our steady hangouts.

We're going out to Occidental tonight for a party for the wine interns and their hosts. They're having it at the Union Hotel, which we love. Should be a good time.

Hey, has anyone ever eaten or cooked a capon? I just read about them last night and I want to try one. Why doesn't anyone ever tell me about these things!? :)

Yes, I have. It tastes like chicken.

I only half meant that as a joke. It really did just taste like a chicken. Absolutely nothing about it that I recall would separate it from any other chicken I've ever had and therefore no reason to go out of my way to have it again as opposed to some other kind of chicken.

Huh. I'm going to order one from a local market and try it out. They're supposed to be a lot meatier and more tender than regular chicken. How was yours prepared?

I don't really remember. It was a restaurant meal. I just remember the general impression (at the time it had to be explained to me that a capon was just a chicken is the only reason I remember I had it).

Does this make you want to throw up? If not, then just imagine the capon cooked. Those raw pictures are kinda gross.
