I ordered a ham radio today. It's the Icom T90A. Not that anyone would know what it is, but there it is. It's a small handheld transceiver that can send/receive on three different bands, 6m, 2m and 70cm. I waited such a long time to get a radio because I wanted to get a base or mobile radio that allowed me to use the HF bands along with VHF and UHF but I could never decide on a model. The HF radios are kind of expensive, especially for someone who has never used one, so I figured I'd get this and play with it for a year or two, working local traffic and repeaters until I was comfortable with them, then get a HF rig and try to work the long distance stuff(DX). Anyway, it's pretty cool. It has a ton of memory and tons of different features that I have no clue how to use, so it should be fun to explore. When I passed my license test I was talking with some of the old "elmers" and they gave me a frequency list for their normal ham nets and repeaters and stuff, so that's the first thing I'll try working. You can also pick up all sorts of other traffic too on this radio, like weather, shortwave, TV, regular FM/AM radio, fire, military, aircraft, etc, so I can be like those old people that sit around with their scanners and know all about who is getting arrested in their neighborhood. :)

73s(Best regards) from KI6LGV :)

It's been a week since I quit smoking. I haven't had the urge to go out and buy a pack yet, so that's good. Mostly I just miss smoking. I've been eating a LOT of sunflower seeds, lol. The weekends appear to be the challenge. Hopefully that'll be easier once I start getting off my ass more and getting outside to do stuff instead of sitting inside on the computer all the time. My weight is holding steady, so that's a good thing.

Oh cool, I didn't know you were a ham. Do you still have a radio? I've never used a real radio, I'm excited!

congrats on the week!! I feel like I quit every other week and I am such a weak loser, I always break down and buy a pack. I bought one last night but they are Nat Sherman Natural Mints. Mmmmmm... at least they're natural, right?
