So, when we got movies at Circuit City this weekend, one of them was Pippi Longstocking. What I didn't realize was that it was the new 80's remake of the old shows. I couldn't tell because, frankly, it's been a long time and everything seemed so familiar, except there were these horrible cloying songs in the new version. I looked around today and realized as soon as I saw a picture of the real Pippi that I had got a "fake".

[09:39] democritus90: ah I found the REAL Pippi Longstocking
[09:41] Shannon: thank god
[09:41] Shannon: I have that stupid fucking song so stuck in my head
[09:42] democritus90: ME TOO
[09:42] democritus90: I was searching for it so I could link it to you and drive you crazy
[09:43] democritus90: Piiiippi LONGstocking the FRECKLE FACED red hair girl....!
[09:43] democritus90: I dreamed that god damn song
[09:43] democritus90: and then I woke up singing it in my head
[09:44] Shannon: yep, same here
[09:45] Shannon: it's so ... catchy.. and cheery.  yet awful and makes me want to murder
[09:45] democritus90: lol yep
[09:45] democritus90: anyway, I ordered the real pippi discs, I'm so excited!
[09:45] Shannon: awesome

Gah I used to watch the 80s one all the time! It was so bad. That freaking "Running Away" song is stuck in my head now.

Yeah, thankfully for some reason I missed the 80s one, which is why I didn't realize I had got the wrong one. I think it wouldn't have been so horrible if not for the songs.

I loved Pippi Longstocking as a kid! But a few years ago, I accidentally downloaded a porn that had a Pippi Longstocking look-a-like getting fucked by a Rottweiler and so now I whenever I think of Pippi, I think of that horrible image.

"Accidentally" yeah right.

Thanks for ruining it for me!

Dude, there is only one Pippi and that is Swedish Pippi. All other Pippis are imitation and cannot be trusted.

I loved the original Pippi. It's because of her that I broke my arm when I was little, trying to fly. All hail Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackerelmint Ephraim's Daughter Longstocking!

Yeah she is awesome. It's really weird thinking about it because of how we saw shows back then. There was none of this instant gratification, you just had to catch it when it was on(on the weekend specials). So, it made it even more special. Same with The Wizard of Oz and the Christmas specials and stuff.

When I was a girl ...
I give this little speech so often I'm sure my minions are tired of hearing it. Back when she was a toddler, I got my niece the Rudolph and Frosty movies on (gasp) VHS so my sister could play them for her at Christmas time, since she wasn't allowed to stay up late enough to see them ... Of course, she saw no reason why she shouldn't watch them in April or June, or any time she felt like it, until she was bored of them and didn't want to watch them at all anymore, ever.

You know what this means, Vince? We're OLD.

Re: When I was a girl ...
I think it means that there's something to be said for doing things in moderation. And I did the same thing with the Schoolhouse Rock videos when those came out. I watched them so many times I thought they were dumb. They weren't dumb, they were awesome, I just overwatched them. That blows. I think it says something about humans. We just keep clicking the feel good button until it doesn't feel good anymore(or we die), like rats.

I always think of you a the poster boy for moderation!

Hey, I said it was a good thing, not that I practiced it!

Re: When I was a girl ...
You're right, of course. I'm sure we can agree that when things can be had on demand their value usually degrades. For us old fogeys the moderation principle used to be built into the rhythm of life: instant gratification simply wasn't possible. I sometimes wonder what Generation X-box will find to be of enduring value.

OMG, Pippi was my fucking hero!

I was so young that I'm pretty sure I never realized (until just now, watching YouTube clips) that it was dubbed. Haha.
