Well, I'm dreaming again. I had planned on doing my first century this year but I think I'm going to try to do this series of brevets instead. The first one is in less than a month and is 200 k, or 124 miles. There is a famous bike race called the Paris-Brest-Paris. It's a 1200 km (745 mile) bike ride that happens every four years. To qualify, you have to do four brevets in the same year as the PBP:

200 Km in 13.5 Hrs.
300 Km in 20.0 Hrs.
400 Km in 27.0 Hrs.
600 Km in 40.0 Hrs.

Now, I'm in terrible (cycling) shape, but I learned something from last year's half marathon. Primarily that I don't have the willpower to train for something unless I have a specific goal in front of me that I'm dedicated to finishing. So, I'm going to throw these brevets out as short term goals. If I can do them, then I'll continue my training, riding brevets and centuries and whatnot and I'll do the PBP in 2007. Who knows. Maybe there will be an august, 2007 LJ post that says, "I just got back from France, having ridden 1200 KM..." Wouldn't that be the SHIT? Also, since I didn't keep up with my cycling, I couldn't reward myself with a new bike. If I do a few of these brevets I can justify it! :P

You may be crazy. I rode my bike less than a mile to the ballpark this afternoon and almost died.

A couple friends of mine did PBP last year. Said it was a hell of a ride and that i'd be perfect for it. I'm not so sure. I've been thinking of doing some brevets, though.
