Monster Cable has to be one of the biggest scams around. I remember not too long ago reading some article where they did a blind study comparing various speaker cables. The testers were all audio geeks. The cables ranged in price from something you'd get for $2 at RadioShack to the $50 Monster one (it was meant for consumer-level cables; they didn't include any of the really crazy ubergeek ones that go for $500/foot and such).

Also included was an extension cord from Home Depot that someone cut the ends off and spliced into speaker terminals. That one scored near the top. The Monster Cable was dead last.

Wow, Allan's been playing out professionally for a million years and he rarely buys anything BUT Monster cables for his stuff. Maybe it's because he really whips the shit out of his equipment, but he loves the quality and if anything does go wrong, he can just bring it in to any authorized dealer (most guitar shops around here anyway) and they give him another one, no questions asked. In the circles he's in Monster cables are very popular. Maybe they're shitty quality as far as home audio stuff goes, I don't know.

They're not shitty quality, they're good quality. It's just that they aren't much better than the generic stuff. If you think about a cable it's really just a wire or two, maybe some shielding. It's not that hard to make. Pretty much any cable you can return if there's a problem with it. That said, for a professional musician, there are probably side benefits to using Monster cables, like maybe clients respect him more or something, heh.

Hell if I know- I think for the most part he knows what he's doing, but then again, he does smoke a lot of dope. ;)

Next time he goes to buy that $200 amp cable tell him top get the $12 Radio Shack one and take you out to dinner with the difference. :P

Hahaha- actually as I think of it, most of his cables are gratis because he buys thousands of $$ worth of PA equipment, guitars, harmonicas, and the like from the same people. I think he gets them mostly as freebies.

That icon is awesome.
