I still don't understand how to use MySpace, other than adding people. Can anyone give me a comprehensive explanation of how actual communication works on there or is it really all just "blog" posts and

Accumulating friends really is the primary thing. Especially for you, since I imagine you have the email/IM/phone number of each of your Myspace friends. The other thing is the Comments, where you can reassure the more insecure of your friends that you love them daily.

I usually use it for people who aren't on IM/Yelp/whatever, or to post pictures directed at one person, but open to everyone. Like, if I took pictures at your birthday party, I'd post a comment on your Myspace so that not only you'd get them, but they'd be there for your friends (who would presumably be interested) to see, as well. That way it's just one post instead of a big chain of emails that someone's inevitably gonna get left off of.

It has also become somewhat of a standard for music websites. A band might have their own site, but its easier for me to collect all the bands I like in one spot (Myspace or last.fm). Most bands have a good amount of content on their Myspace, so you don't even need to visit their site, unless you want to buy shit. It can also be sort of a music RSS feed of sorts. All the bands I'm interested will probably post bulletins or blog entries about upcoming shows, so if I check one page regularly (my Myspace) I'll catch them all, instead of having to go to each band's site to keep track.

Oh, and bulletins are good to get quick messages out to all/most of your friends with one click, like my birthday party one. Type it up once, send to all, and there you go. Easier than email.

Jeff nailed a lot of it on the head. Myspace is a simple way for me to make sure my non-email reading friends (oddly enough it's "teh difficult!" for some of them). Also, I simply like posting stuff that brushes the TOS offenses there.

Up until recently, I used it to keep track of a few friends who a)never bothered to respond to emails and b)moved around a lot. I never keep an address book, either, and its messaging system stands me in good stead.

You can also use it as a dating site, but....

And yet, you use Friendster? I hadn't even opened mine in months, until I got the request from you.

Well I got this email from friendster saying you could search your email address book, and it sounded cool, so I went there, heh.
