I took a spin class at my new gym today. Hoo boy, it was hard! It really showed me how out of shape I was. I'd like to officially take back anything I ever said about spin classes, because I know I've mocked them in the past, "Ooooh, so you rode a stationary bike? That sounds SO hard(pshaw). Why not just go outside and ride a real bike?" But, I really, really liked it. It burned the crap out of my legs, man. I hope I can make it about once a week or so. They have them early in the morning too, which would be awesome once I'm in better shape. The class also made me focus on something I really miss: Riding with a partner who's better than me. When I used to ride with my buddy Andrew in Washington he would be continually kicking my ass and making me work harder than I wanted to and that meant racing and really blowing your wad when climbing, which is one of my favorite things about riding because when you give everything you have you get that endorphin explosion that feels SO good. I felt that today after a long, long time of not feeling it. I don't know why it's so impossible for me to do that to myself. I guess I always want to save a bit of reserve for the ride back or whatever. Anyway, I feel great. If you have spin classes available to you at your gym, I totally recommend them.

After this winter, I think I know all the words to my CTS videos.

Getting back into lifting in the last month really killed all the progress I made on speed, though -- I'm so friggin beat all the time. I feel dead slow but I'm afraid to rest too much. It's a good thing spring is here, because I am about tired of 3 spin sessions a week.

Aye, I used to go to those when I was in undergrand, and may start them again soon (aerobics is not much of a challenge anymore)...

Even adjusting it to your own level it is hard!

I do enjoy the spin, a good compact work-out, timewise. It has save me from the Northern MI winter. Unfortunately, not all instructors have refined musical tastes. After a recent incident of the instructor asking for requests, mine was, uh, no dance/electronic beats music, please--resulted in an hour of Bon Jovi tunes. Jeebuz! I meant AND no 80's hair bands, please!

I can't even think of what kind of music they would play if not dance/electronica type stuff. That's what our instructor played and I thought it was nice, high energy stuff. For example, I certainly wouldn't want to spin to, say, The Beatles or Skynard or something.

oooh spin class is WAY fun! It's all dark and the music plays. The lady who taught my class even had us do push ups while riding :)

"blowing your wad" good times

Yeah it was a lot harder than I thought it would be, which is awesome. I totally couldn't stand the whole time.

Ooh, I've been meaning to check spinning out where I've been going but I've put it off (I haven't done it, either.) Thanks for the good review! *goes to check the class schedule, wine in hand*
