We had a president named Chester A. Arthur? Never heard of him. Well, I must have when I was a kid but that name is not familiar to me at all. I saw it on some website's trivia thing about him having 80 pairs of trousers.

He figured prominently in one of the Die Hard movies. The one with Samuel Jackson.

Dude, yes we had a president named Chester A. Arthur. He's the Father of Civil Service! I have that Laura Ingalls book about San Francisco to send you, and now I'm going to add Assassination Vacation.

Dammit. I was going to reply to mention both the Die Hard and civil service thing.

So I'll just have to point out that the really amazing thing about him being the father of civil service reform is that he was purely a product of the Tammany Hall political machine.

I seem to remember some Daily Show segment saying, "Chester A Arthur was voted Most Likely to Never Be Remembered."

ION, i discovered today that the Hispanic Scholarship Fund has an entire file drawer full of Gonzalez. That's out of about 25 file drawers total.
